Located near the east coast of Sabah, 36km from Lahad Datu town, Taliwas River Conservation Area was originally a project site set up in 1970 by Sabah Forestry Department for enrichment planting of logged forest around Taliwas. Today, TRCA is a perfect place for visitors to experience a pleasurable nature recreation, with its unique flora vegetation, beautiful serene lake and crystal-clear water. TRCA also offers the chance to sight wildlife such as birds, mammals and reptiles.

Taliwas River Conservation Area (TRCA) is one of the conservation areas managed by Yayasan Sabah since 1992. It covers a unique ultramafic and lowland forests with an acreage of 9,456 hectares. In 2012, the area was officially upgraded and gazetted as Class 1 Forest Reserve and included under Danum Valley Management Committee (DVMC).
